Caught Electricity theft worth Rs 79 crores  and recovered Rs 48 crores - PC Meena



Electricity theft is a legal offense; there is a provision of fine and punishment


Gurugram, 28 October- Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN)  is organizing the campaign to catch electricity theft. This campaign has helped the power Discom in reducing the technical and distribution loss (T&D).


DHBVN Managing Director Sh. PC Meena said that last month the electricity theft worth Rs 79.13 crores has been caught and 48.08 crores of fines have been deposited by the consumers who are stealing electricity.


He said that in the current financial year, more than 60 percent of the fine imposed has been recovered. In this campaign, the meter connections of 71787 consumers have been checked by the joint investigation team of the Discom, out of which 20568 electricity connections were caught stealing and 20038 FIR has been registered against them, he added.


The Managing Director said that police and legal action is being taken against those consumers who have not deposited the outstanding amount of fine for electricity theft yet.


Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has significantly reduced technical and distribution losses by making technical improvements to the distribution system and by detecting thefts also. The Discom is adopting a multi-pronged approach to contain the T&D losses. The technical enhancement of the existing distribution network is to increase the HT to LT ratio to reduce technical losses and prevent theft by increasing the HT lines. Intensive and targeted theft detection operation on high loss feeders is going on, he said.


Managing Director Sh. PC Meena said that stealing electricity is a legal offense. There is a provision of fine and punishment for theft of electricity. Everyone's cooperation is expected for ending this practice. Nigam to prevent power theft, an XYZ portal has also been created by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, he added. 


If any person sees someone stealing electricity, he can give information to toll free number 18001801011 of discom or whats app number 7027008325 or email at hookacrook4dhbvn@dhbvn.org.in or theftinformer@dhbvn.org.in. Anyone can report theft on any working day from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, he said.


There is also a provision to reward the person who inform about theft.  The name of the informer is kept secret by the Discom.  From time to time, the campaign is carried out by the joint team of the Discom to prevent theft of electricity. Discom is constantly striving to supply better power to its consumers and reduce line losses, he added.
