Shelly Oberoi is a Dummy Mayor, the Municipal Corporation is actually being run by MLAs Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj - Kamaljeet Sehrawat
Arvind Kejriwal government is engaged in Dismantling Municipal Corporation of Delhi forever - Harsh Malhotra
Aam Aadmi Party through PWD is trying to bring contractual system for cleaning of roads which BJP strongly opposes
New Delhi, 4 February. Former Mayors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi Shri Harsh Malhotra and Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat said in a joint press conference today that it is a matter of regret that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who started his political journey by talking about strong local bodies and mohalla meetings, for last 8 years has been trying to weaken the biggest local body of the country the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The press conference was moderated by State Spokesperson Shri Praveen Shankar Kapoor who said that in the last three months, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has witnessed the darkest violent chapter in its 70-year history, which has put Delhi to shame.
In the press conference, the BJP showed photographs in which Ms. Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj are holding a meeting of corporation officials and the Chief Minister himself is talking to journalists on corporation issues keeping the Mayor aside.
Shri Harsh Malhotra said that it is a matter of regret that the Arvind Kejriwal government is engaged in dismantling the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Kejriwal neither allowed any leadership to develop in his party's municipal corporation team in the last eight years and now that his party has got majority in the municipal corporation, even then he is not ready to hand over the leadership to any municipal councilor, the proof of which is yesterday's visit to Okhla landfill site. Kejriwal along with his minister Kailash Gehlot visited the closed landfill site of Okhla and claimed that we will clear it by December 2023.
Shri Malhotra has said that the Okhla landfill site has been closed for the last one and a half years, no new garbage is dumped there. In October 2022, when the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated a plant to generate electricity from garbage in Tughlakabad. the Commissioner MCD had announced that the Okhla landfill site would be cleaned up in a year as all its waste would be used to generate electricity.
He said that two months ago the NHAI of the Central Government has in an agreement with MCD has decided that the mountains of garbage will be cleared in the next 18 to 20 months. It is regrettable that the Arvind Kejriwal earlier tried to mislead on the schemes of the Center by claiming them to be his own and is now trying to take credit for the work done during the BJP rule of the Municipal Corporation by repeating the old announcements of the Corporation.
Shri Malhotra said that Arvind Kejriwal has the habit of running the administration and Vidhansabha as per his wish because there is a small opposition in strength in assembly but BJP is a big party in the Municipal Corporation and we will not allow Kejriwal to violate the Corporation's sovereignty.
Former Mayor Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that it is extremely regrettable that today the Aam Aadmi Party leadership is running the Municipal Corporation of Delhi with remote control.
Ms. Shaili Oberoi is a Dummy Mayor, the Municipal Corporation is actually being run by MLAs Ms. Atishi and Saurabh Bhadwaj.
Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat has said that we have also seen in the meetings of the Municipal Corporation that Ms. Atishi used to give instructions to the Mayor on phone and WhatsApp and she used to take action accordingly and now in the meetings she is holding with the officials for two days we see Ms. Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj sit with her which clearly shows that the Municipal Corporation is now running remotely.
Raising another serious issue, Shri Malhotra and Smt. Sehrawat said that since Aam Aadmi Party took over the Municipal Corporation they want PWD to start cleaning of roads through contractual system and removing MCD staff. BJP leaders said we will strongly oppose the privatization of sanitation system of MCD through backdoor.
