GMDA Schedules Mock Drills of All Underpasses in The City
-Mock drills scheduled from end of May
-Pumping machinery at all underpasses under GMDA, NHAI and DLF jurisdiction will be tested
Gurugram, 24th May 2023: In the ongoing flood preparedness measures being undertaken by Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), the mock drills for all the 14 underpasses in the city have been scheduled to check the functioning of the pumping machinery to ensure no water logging occurs in the underpasses during the monsoon season.
The mock drills will be carried out along with officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), PWD & DLF as per the areas falling under their respective jurisdictions. Mock drills of seven underpasses under NHAI, four under DLF, two under GMDA & PWD and one under GMDA will be carried out. The drainage system and pumps installed in the underpasses will be tested for their efficacy in preventing any water accumulation in these underpasses.
Speaking on the proposed plan of conducting mock drills at the underpasses, Shri P.C. Meena, CEO GMDA said, “Mock drills have been scheduled at all the underpasses in the city to gauge the condition of the pumping machinery and ensure they are working to their full capacity. Any remedial measures that need to be taken by the concerned departments will be executed on priority to address waterlogging concerns in the underpasses and to curb any inconvenience to commuters during the monsoon season.”
The mock drills of underpasses under NHAI are scheduled as follows: Ambiance Mall on 29th May, Shankar Chowk on 30th May, Iffco Chowk Metro Station to MG Road on 31st May, Signature Tower on 1st June, Rajiv Chowk on 2nd June, Hero Honda Chowk on 3rd June and Medanta Road underpass on 4th June. Fire tenders required during the execution of the mock drill will be provided by the Fire Officer.
Simultaneously, the mock drills for the underpasses on Golf Course Road will be also be undertaken along with DLF officials. The mock drills of both the U-turn underpasses in DLF Cyber city will be on 29th May, Sikanderpur Underpass on 30th May, DLF Phase 1 underpass on 3rd June & the Genpact underpass on 4th June. DLF will ensure proper arrangement for filling of sumps with recycled water to test that all pumping machinery is in good condition.
The mock drill of the newly constructed underpass at Atul Kataria Chowk has been scheduled for 31st May and for the new underpass at Mahavir Chowk on 2nd June. The mock drill at Huda City Centre underpass will be carried out on 1st June.
During the mock drills, traffic will continue to ply as normal in the underpasses and all lanes will be open to commuters.
