Gurugram, 14 September: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has taken up the construction of the Master Drain along SPR from Vatika Chowk on Sohna Road to NH8, is underway by GMDA. The work commenced on 20th August and is in full swing.

The 5.2 km long reinforced cement concrete (RCC) box drain will be constructed along the sectors 69, 70, 75 and 75A and will cater to the rainwater discharge from sectors 68 – 80 during the monsoon season, thereby strengthening the drainage network in these sectors. Furthermore, it will also ease the pressure on Badshahpur Drain & curb overflow of stormwater during periods of heavy rainfall.

The work will be executed at a cost of Rs 105 crore and will be completed by October 2024.

At present, there are three drains which carry the city’s stormwater to the Najafgarh drain, namely through Leg-1 drain (Sikanderpur via Palam Vihar to Najafgarh), Leg-II drain (Sector 42 via Huda City Centre to Najafgarh) and Leg-III drain (Ghata village via Vatika Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 99 to Najafgarh drain) also called the Badshahpur drain.

The new drain under construction will function as Leg IV drain of Gurugram city once completed. The design of the RCC box drain has been approved by IIT Rourkee.

“Construction work of Leg 4 drain is in progress to improve the drainage network & curb any waterlogging concerns in the sectors 68-80 during heavy monsoon season. It will offer much respite to the citizens residing in these sectors,” – Shri Parik Garg, Executive Engineer, GMDA.
