- Meeting held with officials of various departments at the Public Works Department rest house, instructions given for measures and arrangements to reduce air pollution.

- In the meeting, measures and arrangements to prevent air pollution caused by construction and demolition waste, vehicle emissions, road dust, open waste burning, industrial emissions, single-use plastic were discussed.

Gurugram, 1 September. Haryana State Pollution Control Board Chairman P. Raghavendra Rao today held a meeting with officials of various departments at the local Public Works Department rest house and outlined various measures to be taken up to reduce air pollution in Gurugram.



In the meeting, he said that air pollution increases due to construction and demolition activities, vehicle emissions, road dust, open waste burning, industrial emissions and single-use plastic among others. Officials of the concerned departments should prepare an action plan and start working on this, so that air pollution can be reduced before the weather change occurs in the coming months. He said that they should ensure the collection of C&D waste lying at various places is systematically carried out and must curb the rampant practice of illegal dumping of waste/garbage. 



Representatives of RWAs and Industrial Associations present in the meeting suggested that proper disposal of C&D Waste should also be made mandatory for applying building plan and occupation certificate during construction activities. On this, Shri Rao directed the officials of Municipal Corporation Gurugram to prepare an action plan in collaboration with the representatives of RWAs and Industrial Associations and send it to them within a week. Chief Executive Officer of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Municipal Commissioner Shri PC Meena said that Municipal Corporation Gurugram is running a plant with a capacity of 1000 metric tons per day to process C&D waste and work is also being done to set up another plant in the future. He informed that RFP is being floated for door-to-door C&D collection, enforcement and processing. In the meeting, instructions were also given by the Chairman to fix the accountability of the officers engaged in C&D waste related work.



He also gave instructions to curb the activities related to burning of garbage. Along with this, he also asked to prepare an action plan regarding management of e-waste. 

The Chairman also gave instructions to the concerned officials to ensure the usage of anti-smog guns at construction sites as per the rules and to curb open transportation of C&D waste and construction materials. To reduce the pollution caused by road dust, he gave instructions to get water sprinkling and mechanical sweeping done. 



To boost the green cover in the city, officials said that over 10 lakh saplings are being planted by GMDA and over 5 lakh saplings are being planted by Municipal Corporation. Here, the Chairman suggested that local citizens may be given the responsibility for taking care of the plants to ensure the sustainability of these plantation activities. To address issues of encroachments in Green Belts, GMDA officials submitted that fencing is also being carried out by the Authority to protect the green belt areas from encroachments and dumping of waste and C&D material. Additionally, treated waste water pipelines are also being extended for horticulture requirements of these green belts. 

To promote public transportation in Gurugram, CEO GMCBL Shri Munish Sharma said that 50 midi electric buses will soon be included in the city bus fleet. Apart from this, RTA officials said that e-autos and CNG run autos are being promoted and registration of diesel autos has been stopped from January 1. The Chairman gave instructions to the officials of the concerned department to conduct third party inspection of PUC centers from time to time.



The Chairman asked GMDA and Municipal Corporation officials to develop infrastructure to promote walking and cycling in the city and to get the footpaths and potholes in roads repaired within a month. CEO GMDA added that the Authority is working towards developing an integrated cycle track network in the city and at present work is also underway at MG road where the last mile connectivity with the metro station is also being explored.

In the meeting, GMDA CEO and Municipal Commissioner Shri PC Meena, Municipal Corporation Manesar Commissioner Shri Ashok Garg, GMCBL CEO Shri Munish Sharma, GMDA Additional CEO Shri Subhash Yadav were present along with officers from Pollution Control Board, Electricity Department, Municipal Corporation and other departments.  Representatives from RWAs and industrial associations also participated in the meeting.
