- City Bus Services in Gurugram Set for Major Optimisation

- Gurugaman App to be further upgraded and made user-friendly

- Five model, violation-free junctions to be developed

Gurugram, :  As part of the ongoing efforts of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to strengthen public transport services and improving overall traffic management in the city, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA, Shri P.C. Meena today chaired a meeting with officers of Gurugram City Bus Limited (GMCBL) to deliberate on measures to optimize Gurugaman city bus services and strengthen traffic discipline across key junctions in the city. Present in the meeting were CEO GMCBL, Vishwajeet Chaudhary, Joint CEO GMCBL Ravinder Kumar, senior officers of GMCBL and representatives of academia and corporate sector.

Optimisation of city bus routes planned for better connectivity

During the meeting, CEO GMDA highlighted that GMCBL plays a crucial role in facilitating reliable public transport for the city, particularly to cater to the office-going and student population traveling in high-demand areas. It was informed that at present, 150 GMCBL buses are plying on 21 routes across Gurugram.

GMDA Chief directed that optimization of these routes must be undertaken to enhance operational efficiency and commuter convenience. He further instructed that comprehensive data on passenger volumes, ridership patterns, peak-hour demand and route performance must be collated and analysed to guide the optimization exercise. On routes witnessing high passenger footfall, the possibility of increasing bus frequency should be actively explored to better meet commuter demand and cater to a larger passenger base.

CEO GMDA also noted that 100 new electric buses are expected to be inducted into the GMCBL fleet in the near future. In view of this expansion, he directed officials to identify new routes where city bus services can be introduced, including emerging and fast-developing corridors such as the Dwarka Expressway area, among others, to ensure wider coverage and improved last-mile connectivity.

The route optimization exercise was discussed in detail during the meeting, and representatives from academia and other knowledge partners, keen to collaborate with GMDA in enhancing city bus services, were also present.

Gurugaman App to be upgraded for improved commuter experience

PC Meena also directed that the existing Gurugaman Bus App be made more user-friendly and passenger-centric. He directed officials that few regular commuters must be looped in and their feedback incorporated to enhance the app’s functionality. The app should provide clear and accurate information regarding bus timings, route duration, routes covered and other essential travel details to ensure ease of use for all passengers availing GMCBL services and encourage more city residents to choose public transport.

Five model junctions to be developed for improved traffic discipline

In addition to improvement of public transport services, CEO GMDA directed concerned teams to develop, in coordination with the Traffic Police Department, five model junctions in the city that should be made completely violation-free. GMDA will undertake necessary infrastructure improvements at these junctions, including proper lane markings, pedestrian crossings, traffic signages and installation of speed limit boards. Furthermore, CCTV cameras installed at these junctions must be effectively utilized for enforcement. Challans should be issued and stringent penalties imposed on violators found flouting traffic norms, with the objective of improving road discipline, reducing incidence of violations on these model junctions and ensuring safer movement for all road users.

“Our priority is to make commuting in Gurugram easier, safer and more reliable for every citizen. By optimising city bus routes, upgrading the Gurugaman App to keep passengers informed and developing model, violation-free junctions, we aim to ensure that robust public transport services and improved traffic management enhances daily commuting experiences for everyone in the city,” said P.C. Meena, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA.

The meeting concluded with directions to concerned departments to ensure coordination for strengthening public transport services and traffic management in Gurugram for the benefit of the citizens at large.
