- Decongestion of Rajeev Chowk to be expedited
- 3-km elevated stretch proposed along Narsinghpur
- FOBs on NH-48 to boost pedestrian safety and planned two-wheeler movement*
- Joint drainage connectivity works planned to address underpass flooding during monsoon
Gurugram, 28 January: A review meeting was held between the Chairman, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shri Santosh Kumar and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Shri P.C. Meena at the NHAI Office, to deliberate upon key issues of mutual importance and to finalise an action plan for coordinated implementation of decongestion works and improved connectivity projects in Gurugram.
During the meeting, multiple matters pertaining to road infrastructure, connectivity, congestion mitigation and public safety were discussed, with emphasis on execution through close inter-agency coordination between the concerned authorities.
Decongestion of Rajeev Chowk to be expedited
A key agenda item in the meeting was the decongestion of Rajeev Chowk, one of the most critical junctions of the city. To improve traffic movement on this stretch, two elevated grade separators are under planning.
For traffic moving from Delhi towards Sohna, a left-turn elevated ramp is proposed from the Main Carriageway of NH-48 to the Main Carriageway of NH-248A, with provision of an exit to the service road as well.
Additionally, for Sohna-to-Delhi commuters, a right-turn elevated ramp is proposed connecting the Main Carriageway of NH-248A with the Main Carriageway of NH-48, with provision for traffic from the service road of NH-248A also, to enable access to the elevated right-turn ramp.
It was decided that the matter must be expedited on priority to reduce congestion as well as to enhance connectivity between the Sohna and Mumbai Expressways. The authorities agreed to hold discussions with all concerned stakeholders to resolve any hindrances, including issues related to land parcels required for construction of the proposed elevated corridors connecting Delhi–Gurugram.
NHAI proposes elevated corridor along Narsinghpur; DPR to be prepared
NHAI also presented a proposal for construction of a three-kilometre elevated stretch along Narsinghpur to alleviate traffic congestion on this critical corridor. Directions were issued by the Chairman, NHAI to initiate preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed elevated corridor.
CEO GMDA added that the Authority is also laying a storm water drain up to Badshahpur to resolve the long-standing issue of waterlogging along the Narsinghpur service lane. To enhance the efficiency of the drainage system, NHAI will construct a culvert on NH-48, and both teams will jointly draft the plan for execution of this work.
*NH-48 pedestrian safety to be strengthened through new FOBs*
To enhance public safety on NH-48, the proposal for development of Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) was discussed. It was concluded that GMDA will identify multiple stretches where FOBs are required to facilitate safer pedestrian movement on the National Highway. NHAI will take up the construction of these FOBs, which will be handed over to GMDA for further maintenance.
These FOBs will be equipped with ramps and lifts to improve accessibility of the FOB, ensure safety of pedestrians and will also facilitate movement of two-wheelers in a planned manner to help decongest the main carriageways. as well as to improve
*Joint action to address flooding at underpasses during monsoon*
The issue of waterlogging/flooding at underpasses on NHAI stretches during the monsoon season was also deliberated upon. It was directed that the engineering wings of GMDA and NHAI will carry out joint inspections of identified locations and take up necessary works for stormwater drainage connectivity to ensure quick discharge of stormwater during the monsoon.
Additionally, coordinated visits and drafting of an action plan will be undertaken by concerned officers of both authorities for any other critical locations where storm water drain connectivity or sewerage solutions are required ahead of the monsoon season.
Chairman NHAI and CEO GMDA emphasised the need for strong inter-agency coordination for timely implementation of works that improve mobility, safety and commuter convenience across Gurugram for the benefit of the public at large.
