GMDA to Launch Major Anti-Encroachment Drive Across Gurugram from Monday
12 teams comprising 36 officials constituted to clear encroachments from GMDA Right of Way
Gurugram: In line with the directions issued by CEO, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Shri P.C. Meena, a major anti-encroachment drive will be launched across Gurugram from Monday to clear encroachments from the Right of Way (ROW) under GMDA jurisdiction.
A total of 12 teams, comprising 36 officials and staff members, have been constituted for the drive. Each team will comprise three members, including Junior Engineers from the Enforcement, Infra-1 and Infra-2 divisions of GMDA, along with Junior Engineers from the Municipal Corporation of Manesar. The drive will be led by DTP Enforcement, GMDA, Shri R.S. Batth, while teams of Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) of GMDA will monitor the enforcement activities.
*ROW, service roads, green belts and footpaths to be covered*
The drive will cover the carriageways, green belts, service roads and footpaths forming part of the ROW of sector-dividing roads under GMDA jurisdiction. Both permanent and temporary structures found encroaching upon government or public land will be removed as part of the enforcement action.
The CEO Sh Meena said that the objective is to restore public land and ROWs for their intended use, improve traffic movement and ensure safer and smoother movement for pedestrians and commuters.
*Detailed database to track encroachments and action taken*
To ensure effective and transparent monitoring of the drive, a detailed record of existing encroachments will be prepared. A dedicated database will be created capturing the status of encroachments in each area, action taken by the enforcement teams and the status of the site after the drive.
The records will be maintained and monitored on a daily basis by GMDA teams, enabling continuous assessment of the progress of the campaign.
*Survey already underway; status of encroachments to be mapped within 24 hours*
Following the directions of the CEO, GMDA, field teams have already been deputed to conduct surveys and assess the existing encroachments along GMDA ROWs. The status of encroachments in the identified areas is expected to be mapped within 24 hours.
DTP Enforcement, GMDA, Shri R.S. Baath, has personally inspected several locations, including Old Railway Road, New Railway Road, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Golf Course Extension Road and areas around Sectors 4, 7 and 9, where significant encroachments have been observed.
*Public notices and awareness announcements underway*
Public notices have already been issued by GMDA through various newspapers to create awareness among residents and stakeholders and provide them an opportunity to voluntarily remove encroachments. Public announcements for clearing GMDA land and ROWs have also commenced across the identified areas.
The enforcement drive will initially focus on Old Gurugram, where encroachments along roads and public spaces have been contributing to traffic congestion and causing inconvenience to the public.
Speaking on the initiative, CEO, GMDA, Sh PC Meena said that the enforcement drive is being undertaken to improve overall city conditions, restore public spaces and facilitate smoother traffic movement.
He appealed to residents, shopkeepers and other stakeholders to cooperate with the Authority and voluntarily remove any encroachment from GMDA land and ROWs. He said that the drive will be carried out extensively across the city to ensure that public land is kept free from encroachment and used for its intended purpose.
