GMCBL Signs Tripartite MoU with Nagarro and Plaksha University to Optimise Gurugram’s City Bus Network

Gurugram, 1 January: The Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nagarro and Plaksha University to undertake a comprehensive study for the optimisation and rationalisation of the Gurugram city bus network being operated by GMCBL through its Gurugaman city bus operations.

The collaboration aims to strengthen public transport services in Gurugram by improving the efficiency of existing bus routes and planning for the integration of additional buses into GMCBL’s fleet. Currently, GMCBL operates a fleet of 150 Gurugaman buses across the city and 200 new electric buses are to be added in the GMCBL fleet.

Under the MoU, Plaksha University, in coordination with Street Surge, will lead the academic and technical work for the project. The scope includes optimisation of existing routes, scenario planning for fleet expansion and a detailed assessment of last-mile connectivity to enhance accessibility for commuters.

As part of the study, operational & ridership data provided by GMCBL will be digitized and analysed. Additionally a city level travel demand assessment will be done using Big Geospatial Data & passenger surveys to identify key travel corridors, demand patterns and core service areas. This data driven approach will help optimise the existing infrastructure and support evidence-based public transport planning for the city.

The MoU has been signed for a period of 15 months. The first six months will focus on data analysis, planning, and network design, followed by nine months dedicated to execution, implementation support, and monitoring of the proposed solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, the CEO, GMCBL, Shri Vishwajeet Chaudhary said, “Through this collaboration, we aim to further improve and strengthen the Gurugaman bus services in Gurugram and provide citizens with a more robust, reliable, and efficient public transport network.”

Dr Anupam Sobti from  Plaksha University added, “We hope this initiative will serve as a scalable and replicable framework for scientific bus route design and public transport planning across Haryana.”

Nagarro is supporting the initiative as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, enabling applied academic research that contributes to sustainable urban mobility and improved public transport outcomes.

This collaboration marks an important step towards creating a more accessible, efficient and commuter-centric public transport system in Gurugram and to cater a wider section of the city with Gurugaman bus services.
