GMDA Intensifies Road Safety Drive; Nearly 400 Damaged Jersey Barriers Removed Across Key Corridors

Gurugram, 3 June 2026: As part of its ongoing road safety and urban infrastructure improvement initiatives, The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has removed nearly 400 plus damaged jersey barriers from roads across Gurugram. Damaged foundation stones, redundant pipelines and other roadside obstructions have also been cleared from several key corridors, including Rajiv Chowk, Old Railway Road, Delhi–Gurugram Road, Medanta Road and the IFFCO Chowk–SPR stretch, among others.

To minimise inconvenience to commuters and avoid traffic disruption, a major portion of the removal and clearance activities was undertaken during night hours. The drive has been carried out to keep carriageways and road margins free of obstructions, improve traffic movement and enhance road safety across the city.

The initiative is also helping improve visibility along major corridors and at key intersections by removing damaged and misplaced roadside elements that posed potential safety hazards to motorists. The exercise aims to restore the effective right-of-way along city roads, create safer road edges and improve the overall commuting experience on Gurugram roads.

In addition to enhancing commuter safety, the removal of damaged and redundant structures is contributing to cleaner roadsides, improved urban aesthetics and better-maintained public spaces. The exercise is also supporting monsoon preparedness efforts by facilitating smoother maintenance of drains, road shoulders and othe¬¬r critical urban infrastructure.

The city-wide drive is being undertaken in a phased manner through dedicated field teams, with priority being accorded to high-traffic corridors and major intersections. GMDA teams will continue to remove remaining obstructions and undertake corridor-wise safety enhancements across the city.

With a focus on safer roads, smoother traffic movement and improved urban aesthetics, GMDA is undertaking a comprehensive effort to remove damaged roadside infrastructure and upgrade existing safety features, to strengthen commuter safety and create a cleaner, more efficient and better-managed urban environment across Gurugram.
